Dollar Tree Scarecrow: Make DIY Fall Decor On A Budget!

Learn how to make a Dollar Tree scarecrow under $10! Three adorable light-up scarecrow crafts sit on a wooden table. Each has an autumn hat, cute accessories, and different vinyl faces and details.

One of my favorite parts of crafting is customizing! Once you learn a basic craft technique, you can use it to make lots of other projects. For example, it was really easy to turn my light-up bunny and snowman into another seasonal decoration: a scarecrow! I just love how you can mix and match the faces, details, and Dollar Tree items to make your own fall decor like these. Ready to get started? By following the bunny instructions, you’ll have a fun Dollar Tree scarecrow in no time!

You can use the original step-by-step video bunny tutorial as a guide to make your adorable scarecrow:

I love a good budget-friendly project, and am always excited to share fun crafts that don’t cost much money to make. You can make this easy light-up scarecrow mainly out of inexpensive dollar store items, along with a few other materials and tools you may already have on hand!

To start, you’ll need two round glass vases for the body and head. I got these 5″ bowl shaped vases from my local Dollar Tree, but you can usually find them at craft stores, Walmart, and Amazon, too.

We’ll add glitter and lights inside the vases, too. Even fall crafts are better with some sparkle, I think!

But what turns two glass vases and some glitter into a scarecrow? It’s all about the details! It’s super easy to add a face and other features to your Dollar Tree scarecrow using my free SVG files and a Cricut cutting machine. I have some really helpful tips on applying vinyl to curved surfaces in the tutorial below!

There are so many different (and easy) ways to add personality to this Dollar Tree craft! You can tie a bow around its middle to hide the hot glue keeping the vases together, and add a hat to really make it look like an authentic scarecrow. Add a few faux flowers or fall leaves on top of the hat for a great final touch! I have links for lots of ideas in my supply list.

You’ll need something to cut your Dollar Tree scarecrow’s cute little features! I’m using my Cricut Maker 3, but you can use any Maker or Explore series machine. You can even use the Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, or the Cricut Venture!

My free download includes a printable PDF if you want to cut the pieces by hand. These are incredibly detailed, though — so I really recommend using a cutting machine with the DXF or SVG files for best results.

Once the last bit of glue dries and each detail is in place, it’s time to light it up! Turn on the fairy lights and your illuminated scarecrow becomes an adorable autumn nightlight or a seasonal decoration for your end table. You can even put them in your windows for a super cute, nighttime display!

Who knew you could make such a cute craft out of stuff from Dollar Tree? Well, I guess we’re all in on that secret! At under $10 total, these sweet scarecrows so inexpensive, you could make a bunch of them – all with different colors, faces, and cute little personalities.
