Light Sources
I have plenty of lights when i paint, more than i need probably. I do have a main painting light, but since i want to have as good light as possible when i record the videos i have a couple of extra. My main painting light is a wide LED TASK LAMP, 24w with a White light, about 6000 kelvin to give a natural daylight color temperature. I also have two 6300 KELVIN BARE BULBS and a LED MAGNIFYING DESK LIGHT at the same color temperature. All of this is really overkill, although i do admin, having two is nice. Four is definitely more than you need.
AIRBRUSh
Airbrush is a fantastic tool for painting miniatures. It’s by no means a one tool fix all – but with the right use you can get some amazing results, effects and get some of your painting done faster. I’ve used a couple of different airbrushes through my painting and thus have a couple of different recommendations when it comes to airbrushes. The first recommendation is that if it’s your first airbrush – buy a mid priced one. Not a too cheap one that you cant use for small stuff, but also not a too expensive one with a small needle – because it’s easy to do something wrong with your first airbrush and thus breaking it. A 0.3 to 0.4 mm airbrush is great for beginners. For one who had an airbrush for a while and want to dig deeper, a 0.2mm airbrush is great.

CANON EOS M50 – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
The canon EOS M50 is the camera that I use for all the head shots as well as the hand held stuff. A great “cheap” 4k camera – It’s so small and easy to carry around and the focus engine is ridiculous. I can strongly recommend this one for anyone who is shooting stuff where peoples faces are shown. For filmning miniatures it’s great as well.
CANON EOS 5DSR – USA / UK / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
This camera is a bit more on the expensive side but it boasts a whopping 50 megapixel sensor. I’ve had it a couple of years in my normal business so it’s easy for me to use it in my videos. The colors in this one is a step better than the M50, but it’s also a lot bigger and unfortunately lacks 4k. I do use this one for most of my painting shots and details shots – and for the still photos i take of minis after the video.
VILTROX DC70II EXTERNAL MONITOR – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
Not the best monitor in the world. But it has an attractive price point and is incredibly easy to use and move around I am very pleased with what i get from it and it really helps me to see what the camera records when I paint my tutorials.
FLEXIBLE TRIPOD – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
The tripod i use for my Canon M50. Incredibly easy to move around and place in different spaces. I can place the tripod on a shelf, on a chair, in the car or where ever I need.
JOBY GORILLAPOD 5K – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
Same type of product as the Flexible Tripod but much stronger. Made for heavier DSLR’s like my Canon 5D.
BLUE YETI MICROPHONE – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
My studio microphone. Another great-for-price tool I use in every video. All the voice overs and headshots I use this microphone.
RÖDE VIDEOMIC pro+ – USA / UK / GERMANY / CANADA / FRANCE / SPAIN
Great on camera microphone. I use this one when I record on the run. Every time I have to film something outside of my painting studio or or doing hand held shots this is the microphone you hear my voice through.
