With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love (or at least Hallmark reminders of it) is in the air. And while you might be getting pumped (and primped: hello, little black dress) for a romantic night out with your main squeeze, there’s another kind of amour that deserves recognition: girlfriend love. Work wives, best friends, sisters—they are our secret keepers, our fashion consultants, our shopaholic enablers, and our safe place to ugly-cry as well as all-out laugh. All cause for an occasional “hey girl hey.” Enter Galentine’s Day, an unofficial holiday set on February 13 (invented by the ultimate girl’s girl Leslie Knope, more than a decade ago) that is an official excuse to toast your tried-and-true lady friends (or general besties, for that matter!). “Friendships are everything,” says friendship expert (and Frientimacy author) Shasta Nelson. “They are the foundation to our mental health, our emotional health, and our physical health. When we feel connected and supported we are healthier, happier, and more confident.”

Stumped on how to share the love this year? We’ve got you, girl. Whether you’ve cleared your calendar to skip off somewhere for the afternoon or are hunkering down for a cozy night in with your gal pals, here are 20 ideas that will make this a Galentine’s to remember. Keep the frittatas coming!

But most importantly, pop some extra buttery popcorn, pull out the bubbly, and watch classic rom-coms deep into the night!

Must have: Grab some Galentine’s-themed sugar cookies from your local bakery. You know, the ones shaped like conversation hearts and champagne bottles — adorable and delicious.

Must have: Pink cocktails — they’re perfect for Galentine’s Day! Try these:

Classic (& Classy) Cosmopolitan

  • 2 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1½ oz. vodka
  • ½ oz triple sec
  • ¼ oz. lime juice

In a shaker filled with ice, combine juice, vodka, and lime juice. Shake well, and strain into two large martini glasses. Drink and feel like you’re in an episode of Sex and the City.

Strawberries & Champagne Margarita

  • 2 c strawberries, hulled
  • 1 ½ c champagne
  • 1 ½ c tequila
  • ½ c fresh lime juice
  • ½ c triple sec
  • Pink crystallized sugar

Rim the edges of your glasses with pink crystallized sugar. Puree strawberries until smooth. In a shaker, combine strawberries, champagne, tequila, lime juice, and triple sec. Stir or shake until well combined. Pour into glasses full of ice.

Hemingway Daiquiri

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 ½ oz lime juice
  • ½ oz maraschino cherry liquid
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Grapefruit wheel for garnish
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish

Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice, and shake to combine. Strain chilled cocktail into two coupe cocktail glasses. Garnish with a grapefruit wheel and a maraschino cherry. Enjoy!

Red Carpet Party

It’s the day to be a little extra! So, dress to impress, sip champagne, and set-up a photo booth. Instead of AMAs, VMAs, GRAMMYs, or Oscars, show some love and give each other superlatives — funny, sweet, sassy, or all of the above!

Must-have: Balloons! They’re at the top of every list of cute ideas for Galentine’s Day! Hearts, lips, the letters L-O-V-E — it doesn’t matter as long as they’re themed! Be sure to hang them where you can take plenty of pics.
