Bettina Molano didn’t consider herself much of an artist.

But thanks to help from a professional, and maybe a little liquid courage, she created her first masterpiece — an acrylic painting depicting city buildings that she plans to give to her son for Father’s Day.

“I’m not much of a painter, but boy it came out really nice,” said the 59-year-old Los Angeles resident, who created her painting during the grand opening of Pinot’s Palette, a Long Beach wine bar and art studio that mixes sips with paint.

The new Pine Avenue venue held its grand opening on Saturday, May 26.

Gustavo and Yolanda Ochoa work together creating a masterpiece at Pinot

It’s the first Long Beach location for the Houston-based franchise that combines a wine bar with art classes for adults.

“It’s a paint and sip, so basically paint, drink and have fun,” said Monica Ochoa, co-owner of the new Long Beach spot.

Other Pinots are located in spots such as like Encino, Pasadena, Brea and Valencia.

But unlike regular bars or breweries that have been jumping into the trend by having a painting night here and there, the drinking here revolves around the art, with corks popping only when the paint is flowing.

Ochoa, who works as a script supervisor for the hit NBC show “This is Us,” opened the studio with her business partner Mark Pollard, who also serves as the bartender.

Even with the dark blue, red and charcoal-colored walls and brown distressed floors, the first thing you notice when you walk in is the wine bar, which like a typical bar has bottles and beer prominently displayed on the wall under two flat-screen TVs.

To the right of the bar is the art studio portion of the venue, which is made up of three long black tables with dozens of stools and blue aprons hanging on a wall below several colorful acrylic paintings.

To become a painter while sipping wine, people can sign up on the spot during a scheduled class, go online to sign up for the classes, or book a private party.

For now, classes — which run two or three hours — are taking place Thursdays through Sundays.

Once at the class, and maybe after they’ve had a glass or two, an artist will guide people step by step through the featured painting of the night, which can include subjects like wildlife, people, landscapes and other things.

It costs $35 for a two-hour class, or $45 for a three-hour class, which means a more detailed painting and more drinking time, but the drinks are extra.

“We supply the canvas, we supply the brushes — everything that you need to walk out with a painting,” Ochoa said.

“It’s really step-by-step. You don’t have to have any experience. In fact, most people that come in here don’t have any experience painting,” she added.

Molano was one of the newbies people on opening night who had no idea she would be so proud of her creation.

But the budding artist is ready to go back and create more artwork, and maybe down a few drinks.

“I’m very much surprised at what I was able to accomplish,” she said.

EXPERTS SHARE HOW REPURPOSED OFFSHORE RIGS CAN SERVE AS ARTIFICIAL REEFS – AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC (Wednesday, March 2)

A presentation by Blue Latitudes Foundation Co-Presidents Emily Hazelwood and Amber Sparks, “Rigs as Reefs: Reimagining our Energy Past as our Eco-Friendly Future,” digs into how oil platforms can be repurposed into artificial reefs and used as monitoring stations for marine life.

They will talk about what the future might look like at the intersection of industry and the environment.

The free event will be capped off with a cash bar cocktail hour, coloring, music and a paint-a-fish activity from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Honda Pacific Visions Theater. Reservations are required and may be made online or by calling 562-590-3100. Attendance requires proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or a negative test.
