    • Avoiding Damage to the Shade:

    Cleaning the Shade:

Before you start painting, it is important to clean the lamp shade, ensuring that your paint has a sturdy grip on the surface. Start by wiping down the shade with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt particles. If there are any stubborn spots, use a mild detergent and warm water to get them off. Once you’ve finished cleaning, let the shade dry completely before moving on to the next step.

    Applying Primer:

Primer helps create a smooth surface so that your paint can adhere better and last longer without chipping or fading. Choose an acrylic-based primer specifically designed for fabric surfaces, then apply it evenly using either a brush or roller depending on how large your shade is. Let it dry completely before moving on.

Key Takeaway: When painting a lampshade, it’s important to clean the surface and apply an acrylic-based primer for best results. Preparing the shade correctly will help ensure that your paint adheres properly and lasts longer. • Clean with damp cloth • Apply acrylic-based primer • Let dry completely before moving on

    Applying the Paint:

Painting a lampshade can be tricky, but with the right technique and tools it’s easy to achieve professional results. Start by applying paint in thin layers using a small brush or sponge. Be sure to apply even pressure as you go so that your paint job looks smooth and consistent. If needed, use painter’s tape to help keep lines clean and straight.

    Blending Colors:

To create interesting color combinations, try blending two or more colors together. Use a soft cloth or paper towel to gently blend the colors together for an ombre effect. You can also use different shades of one color for subtle variations in hue that will add depth and dimension to your design.

Once you have finished painting your lamp shade, it is time to add some finishing touches. Consider adding glitter or sequins for extra sparkle, or stenciling patterns onto the surface of the shade for added texture and visual interest. You could also try using metallic paints or fabric markers if you want something truly unique.

    Cleaning and Dusting Tips:

Keeping your lamp shade clean is important for preserving its appearance. Start by using a soft, dry cloth to gently dust the shade. If you need to use a damp cloth, make sure it’s only slightly damp so that no moisture seeps into the material. You can also use an air compressor or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove any stubborn dirt or dust particles from hard-to-reach areas.

    Avoiding Damage to the Shade:

When cleaning your lamp shade, be careful not to rub too hard as this could damage the fabric, paint, or both. It’s best to avoid using abrasive cleaners too, like bleach and ammonia, as these can cause discoloration.

To help protect against fading due to sun exposure, consider placing your lamp in an area where it won’t get direct sunlight for long periods of time throughout the day. You can also purchase special UV protection sprays designed specifically for fabrics which will help keep colors vibrant.

Keep your lampshade looking its best with these tips for cleaning and dusting. Avoid abrasive cleaners, heavy objects on top of the shade, and direct sunlight to help protect against fading. Conclusion

Painting lamp shades with acrylic paint is a great way to add some personality and style to your home, and it’s fun too! So get creative and play around with different colors and designs.

    How to Paint a Lampshade

Have you ever seen a lampshade at Goodwill and completely fallen in love with the shape and style but passed it up because the color wasn’t quite right for your space? Well, did you know you can paint a lampshade?! Yep, and all you need is some acrylic paint! It’s so easy!

My 14-year-old daughter has been wanting a Victorian-style lampshade for her room, and I happened to find one on Facebook Marketplace, lamp and shade for just $25! Score! But while the shade was in good condition, she was really hoping for a fun shade of pink.

Enter some acrylic craft paint and thirty minutes later……..tada!

    After

    How fun is this?!

My painting method is so easy, and the result is a totally streak freak paint job! In fact, it’s near impossible to tell that the shade has even been painted at all as the fabric looks like it had been dyed. *Obviously, this works best on a fabric shade.

    How to:

    • You can use any acrylic craft paint. I mixed these three colors to get the warm, pink shade we were after, but any color will work.

    • Use a sponge applicator rather than a paintbrush for the best streak-free results.
    • Then add water to your paint and stir. You’re going for a nice, soupy mixture – not too thin – not too thick. You want a consistency that will drip. The goal is for the paint to go on more like a solid stain rather than paint.

    • One coat is usually all you need unless you’re using a really light paint color. If applying additional coats, just be sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before adding another.

And that’s it for this super simple little project!

It’s kind of hard to tell, but I painted the fringe coral and the shade pink. And I can’t love the result more! This pink vintage lampshade is just so fun and girly!

The pink lampshade is the perfect accessory for her artsy bedroom!

The mural I painted on her wall, which was inspired by the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Netflix series based on the books by the same name, is still one of my favorite projects I’ve ever done. Painting it pushed me way outside of my comfort zone. And that my girl loves it so much just makes my heart so happy!

Her room is one of the happiest, coziest, most personality-filled spaces in our home!

And y’all, look how there are no streaks on this painted lampshade. Say it with me – sponge brush and watered-down acrylic paint – boom!

My girl’s room will hopefully be “finished” soon! Her area rug is finally here, and we’re almost done working on a gallery wall for the wall opposite this mural. Can’t wait to share the final reveal in the coming weeks! It has been so fun to work with her to bring her vision for her room to life!
