Hydrangea Happy

It was supposed to rain today.

I’d prepared a list of indoor activities.

Which promptly got thrown out one of the many windows, that had been thrown open due to the brilliance of the sky and the golden light caressing the garden.

Another truly gorgeous day.

What was I to do?

Perhaps photograph some hydrangeas? Hmm. How about lining them up on the picket fence gate leading to the hydrangea walk? That’s a silly enough idea for this playful gift of a day.

And don’t forget the purple bike!

Silly me. But it was such fun!

Thank you to each of you for your sweet words about the hydrangea blossoms and the published pieces. I honestly cherish each one and think you are way too generous. Wishing you a bright and merry, sunny, rainbow-y day. I’m off to visit you now!

My poor hydraneas are droopy and turning brown. This is gorgeous! How did you keep them healthy for so long? I love your photos. They’re just beautiful.

Georgianna, even your “silly” ideas bring to life the most beautiful pictures! You are so incredibly creative. Love the hydrangeas in the glass jars, and your purple bike goes perfectly with them 🙂

Wow, absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE them all! I wish I could have a whole room just full to the brim with your photos. (Or I will take your garden LOL) I see a lot more photos like this that I love here on your blog, do you plan on listing more on Etsy? 🙂

I love these pictures! They’re not silly at all, the white fence is such a fantastic backdrop for the vibrant colours of the hydrangeas – brilliant. Have a great week, Love from London xo

Hydrangeas just make me happy–all colors of them–just like the ones in your photos. Bet they brought some happiness your way arranging them for all the photos.
Thanks for brightening my day with such delightful photos,

Hello Georgianna!
I have missed out on some beauty over here! Summer has been busy and I am looking forward to quieter days when I can visit more often! Your hydrangea shots are wonderful and I have never seen such a beautiful purple shade on a bike.
Take care,
Leslie

You know, don’t you, that hydrangeas are second in my love only to peonies and ranunculus. Right? And mason jars and picket fences and purple bikes?? Heaven, I’m in heaven – even without someone to dance with cheek to cheek. WOW!

So very sweet those pictures are! 🙂 Love both the hydrangeas and the jars and of course your lovely bike. Congrats on the publishing, you must be thrilled. So well deserved! xo

Materials needed to make Pressed flower mason jar luminaries including mason jars, flowers, paint, mod podge, paintbrushes.

  • Mason Jars in assorted sizes, smooth, with lids
  • Mod Podge in glossy finish
  • Paint brush, ½” angled
  • Acrylic paints in soft purple (or coordinating hydrangea color)
  • Paint brush, 2” angled
  • Pressed hydrangeas
  • Twine or natural decorative ribbon

How to Make Luminaries with Mason Jars and Pressed Flowers:

Thoroughly wash jars with soap and hot water and let them dry completely before using.

Working small sections at a time, apply Mod Podge to the surface of the smaller 8oz jar.

Gently place one pressed hydrangea on top of the glued area and press down.

Seal the hydrangea in place with another coat of Mod Podge over top.

Continue adding one pressed hydrangea at a time on to the glass, overlapping the other flowers for more coverage. Cover the entire jar and then leave the glue to dry fully.

Tie a piece of twine around the neck of the jar and fill jars with candles, flowers or candies and enjoy.

They even look pretty on their own without any candles but look how they glow with a small lit votive candle inside!
