Luxury Camping

Leave the noise from the world behind and tune in to the natural world. We have created an Eco-Retreat to focus on several key elements – sustainability, the importance of our natural environment, connecting with friends and family, and simply experiencing the world around us which often is muted by the rush of our daily lives. Slow things down… enjoy the simple pleasures of life in the country and tap in to your deeper self. All of our accommodations feature a King sized bed and are designed for 1-2 people. Having a fire is something that we find quintessential to camping in Canada, so outside of each accommodation is a private campfire pit for your careful use and enjoyment. Inside your unit you will find them heated by either an environmentally friendly wood-pellet stove or more traditional wood stove. We also have a cedar barrel sauna which is heated by a Finnish wood-stove – a sign-up board outside the sauna door allows guests to privately book their own sessions.

The Explorer’s Tent

Step into an alternate reality, where the edges of the map haven’t yet been drawn. Immerse yourself in the beauty, wonder and energy of this ancient hardwood forest, discovering trails that will lead you to places unknown. Bask in the glow of the fire as you lay your plans out on the table for the next day’s adventure. Our Explorer’s Tent will place you into the midst of the forest primeval, with birds and beasts wandering by in the dark of night, just on the other side of your canvas walls. We have fused some of the luxuries of our modern existence (like plumbing and electricity) to this space as well as tasteful furnishings so that you don’t have to rough it too hard. Our Explorer’s Tents are outfitted with ensuite bathrooms. Stylish aromatic cedar showers and farmhouse style apron sinks, and because of the environmental focus of our Eco-Retreat here we use environmentally friendly chic composting toilets. Fresh, clean water is supplied from our well, which taps into the Oro-Moraine Aquifer. This water is UV-filtered to ensure it is safe for drinking and we hope that this will persuade you not to use bottled water. Ultimately we are trying to be mindful of our carbon footprint and help make a difference with the amount of waste we produce.

The Kitchenette is made up of what we consider to be “The Essentials” to create some great camp meals. A propane BBQ outside, electric burner element inside along with a toaster oven and mini-fridge. Inside the sideboard we have a pot, frying pan, skillet, kettle, salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cutlery, dishes, glassware, locally crafted mugs, tinfoil, matches and a cutting board. There is both a compost bin for food waste, and a recycling bin for those items which can be recycled.

Upon check-in, you will be shown to your accommodation and given a thorough run-down of the fairly simple operation of everything. This is glamping at it’s finest – come camp at Glen Oro and leave the details to us. Click here to access our availability calendar.

A couple walk towards a yurt in winter.

On this page

Drawing on traditional practices and innovative designs, geodesic domes and yurt structures allow you to retreat to nature during the winter season while staying toasty warm even on the coldest nights.

Note: With limited availability of winter glamping opportunities in Ontario, you’ll need to plan and book these well in advance. The experience is worth the wait.

Geodesic domes

Winter glamping is truly comfortable and cozy in geodesic domes. This structure combines a semi-circular arch and polyhedron or triangular designs resulting in a very sturdy dwelling that can weather harsh environmental elements, including strong winds and heavy snow.

Birchwood Luxury Camping

Approximately a one-hour drive northeast of Toronto, nestled in a quiet forest on the small peninsula of Scugog Island in Lake Scugog, Birchwood offers two ultra-deluxe geodesic dome glamping sites.

Each heated dome features a sleeping, dining and living area, tasteful decor, floor-to-ceiling windows and a moonroof above the bed. Fresh towels and linens, a barbeque, firewood and free wi-fi are provided.

Location: Port Perry

Glen Oro Farm

The ultimate eco-retreat awaits at Glen Oro Farm, an operational equestrian facility in the scenic hills and forests of Oro-Medonte, just north of Barrie.

All your comforts are met and your connection to nature is exceeded with their luxury stargazer domes.

Book a visit to the on-site cedar barrel, Finnish-style sauna, or cozy up by the outdoor fire and stay warm with a wood stove instead. Watch the starry night sky above the roomy king-sized bed. Environmentally-friendly en suite bathrooms and kitchenettes complete the glamping experience.

Back Forty Camping

Soak in the beauty of nature, from the bright snow illuminated in the sunshine to the starry night sky, with the comforts of soft sheets, a roaring fire and slow-cooked food.

Retreat to nature in one of four secluded geodesic domes in South Georgian Bay’s Grey County.

Camp Adelaide

Camp Adelaide is a four-season, family-friendly outdoor nature retreat and campground in the Haliburton region that offers a variety of unique accommodation structures, including spacious bubble domes and large lakeside and forest-facing geo-domes.

Warmed by a fireplace, each structure is comfortably furnished with beds, seating areas, lights, and power outlets, while shared kitchen and washroom facilities are close by.

Rustic Retreat Glamping Dome

Panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a private pond, a fireplace, queen sized bed and outdoor deck with a fire pit and hot tub make this luxury dome the perfect romantic glamping getaway just 30 minutes from Niagara Falls.

Yurts

Originating in Mongolia and designed for a nomadic way of life, yurts are tent-like shelters that are round, compact, lightweight and portable. Traditionally, a yurt would consist of a round wooden ribbed or latticed frame covered with animal skins.

In Ontario, yurts have been adapted to suit the Canadian climate and satisfy the glamping trend with wood stoves, insulated canvas walls and in some cases luxurious features like rugs, four-poster beds, kitchen facilities and more.

Nature’s Harmony Ecolodge

A few minutes’ drive north of Mattawa in the beautiful wilderness overlooking eastern Ontario’s Laurentian Mountain, this four-season resort invites you to embrace the beauty and adventure of winter.

Stay in an off-grid traditional hand-made Mongolian yurt that exudes coziness and comfort while also minimizing your ecological footprint.

Your visit is complete with an indoor fireplace, cooking facilities, natural spring water and compost toilet. Bring your own bedding, food and towels.

There’s also a larger Pacific yurt and two new geodesic domes available to rent at the eco-lodge.

Pit Stop 518

Located in Almaguin Highlands, a short distance from both Algonquin and Arrowhead Provincial Parks, Pit Stop 518 offers four authentic family-friendly yurts to choose from.

Each is furnished with everything you’ll need for a unique and cozy getaway, including bedding, basic dishes and cutlery, coffee and tea station, wood burning stove and portable power stations.

Pit Stop 518 is also a fully licenced restaurant, so you can select a food and accommodation yurt package.
