Tulips in a Blue Vase
I usually paint cityscapes, but I love flowers: When I find myself stuck in a rut, I turn to them for a change of pace. I love their shapes and vibrant colors. I’ve painted flowers many times over the years: when the painting succeeds, it is a joyous tribute to life. I’ve always had a fondness for the Vanitas paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, which often feature flowers as symbols of the ephemeral aspect of life. I like that the Vanitas are not just decorative, but also make a statement. I try to capture something of that profundity in my own artwork. I usually use oil paint for my floral paintings, as is the case with Amaryllis Bouquet with Lemons and Petunias with Cherries. I find that the bright colors and vibrancy of flowers are best captured by the luminosity and depth of oil paints. Although I sometimes use acrylic, as I did with 3 Tulips in a Blue Vase.

A: We will not be shipping any pieces. Once a piece has been purchased, we will coordinate the pick of the item at our community center. The Bernie Wohl Center is located at 647 Columbus Ave, NY, NY 10025.
Q: How does my purchase benefit the W.H.A.M Festival and the Community Arts Program?
A: The artists have pledged to donate 50% of the sale price to the Community Arts program. The W.H.A.M. Festival serves as Goddard Riverside Community Arts Program’s annual charitable fundraising drive that jointly supports our presented artists and the future of our programs, including PAC, the Performing Arts Conservatory summer program offering 100% tuition-free professional training in music, dance, and drama for young performers.
Q: Will I receive a gift receipt of my purchase for tax purposes?
A: No. All payments will go through the artists directly, not Goddard Riverside.
