How to Draw An Orchid? [Step by Step]

How to Draw an Orchid

Aren’t they colorful!? Did you know that these are the oldest flowering plants!! And fun fact, u can find them anywhere in the world!! The size of this flower can range from a dime to a hundred-pound giant.

Another fun fact is these flowers are symmetrical. They can be divided in half. These beautiful ornamental orchids represent luxury, beauty, love, and strength.

Ok! Enough of the orchid talk; let’s draw one of them!

How to Draw An Orchid

Step 1: Draw a circle and some petal shapes within it.

Draw a big circle for the guideline of the flower. Then draw another small circle at the center, and around it, draw three petal guidelines as shown in the image.

Step 2: Draw the other three petal shapes..

Like the image, draw another three shapes for petals. These are going to be the large petals. Use the big circle as an outline for the petal shapes.

Step 3: Define the petals.

Step 4: Draw the flower stalk and leaf.

Erase the guidelines for the flower. Now, the stalk part is kinda tricky. Look closely at the picture to understand.

Step 5: Start coloring the petals.

Before starting the coloring, erase the line drawing softly so there will be no harsh lines. Orchids are colorful flowers. Use yellow as a base, and for shading, use orange for the petals.

Step 6: Color all the petals yellow.

Use yellow for all the petals except the middle one. Use pink at the side of that petal.

Step 7: Use red at one petal.

In the middle petals, use a red colored pencil. Blend it with the pink color that you used at first at the sides.

Step 8: Color the stalk and the leaf.

Use yellow at the stalk for highlight. Then use green shades for the leaf. Look closely at the leaf and stalk to understand better.

Care Tips: Orchids love sunlight. They try to get as much indirect sunlight as they can get. Place them, keeping that in mind. Try to water your orchid once a week.
