How to Draw a Lovebird

Step 15 (optional): Draw something under the feet so the lovebird doesn’t appear to be floating. A few short strokes in the shape of a circle create a stick.

Step 16 (optional): For a cleaner look, erase as much as you can of the initial guide lines. Don’t worry about erasing all of the guides. It’s okay to leave some behind. Re-draw any of the final sketch lines that you may have accidentally erased.

Final Step (optional): Lovebirds are colorful, so instead of the usual shading, try coloring your drawing. Using gray, add some shading to give the lovebird drawing more dimension and volume. Pick the direction of the light source so that you draw the shadows consistently. Shadows are generally at the cool end of the color spectrum, so add some to the shadows. Color the beak using light brown or yellow. Color the front part of the head light red or pink. There are different species of lovebirds and different variations within a species. They all have different colors, so you can color yours differently if you’d like.

Add the color lightly at first, and then darker as you cover the face. Apply more pressure to your pencil to get a darker value. Use similar colors on top of each other like orange red and pink to give the face more variety. Continue adding the different layers of colors until you get the shade you like. Start coloring the body using light green or yellow-green. Use strokes that go in the general direction of the feathers on the lovebird’s body. Just like with the red face, add layers of similar colors to the body like lime green, dark green and even blue! Color lightly at first as you build up the different layers and test the colors. If you don’t like a color, simply cover it with one you do like.

As you add more colors, push down a little bit harder to blend the colors together. Adding the different layers of color can be very time-consuming, so be patient and take breaks. Continue adding the different shades of green until you get the color you like on the body. The tail is blue, so color it using different layers of shades of blue. After coloring the tail blue, use some gray for the tips of the wings and feet. After the gray, use different shades of brown for the stick the lovebird is standing on. If you have a pet lovebird, try to duplicate its color on your drawing. And don’t forget to pause the “How to Draw a Lovebird” video to draw at your own pace.

Step 4.

On this last step of drawing all you will be doing is detailing the eye by adding a pupil and detailing the wing with some more jagged strokes to create the look of a fluffy bird wing. Now you can erase all those dirty guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one. more

Step 5.

That is it you did it! That was super dee duper easy wasn’t it? That will complete this fun filled tutorial on how to draw a peach faced lovebird. I hope you had a butt load of fun and I will be back very, very shorty with the last tutorial of the da y. Ta ta. more

Description: Okay I’m back and I am ready to submit another tutorial on another beautiful bird. This time the bird you will be learning how to draw is a lovebird. Love birds are usually given to people to symbolize their affection toward one another. Example; my mother could give me a love bird which would be her way of telling me she loves me. My father could give my mother a pair of lovebirds to symbolize his loyalty and faithfulness to her as well as saying I love you. These birds are small and stocky and they kind of resemble parrots. The most common lovebird in the United States and in some other countries is the Peach faced lovebird, which is the bird you will be learning how to draw today. Some may ask if they can be taught to speak like a parrot since they are so alike in appearance. The answer is yeah sure they can but it is not common. Lovebirds are not known to be great talkers even when taught. An interesting fact about these birds is that there is a total of nine species of this particular animal eight of which are from Africa and the remaining one is from Madagascar. These birds are common pets in households because they are so affectionate and playful with their mates and their owners. Lovebirds that do not get the required attention they seek develop behavioral problems like feather picking which can be a messy and unattractive sight. I bet most of you are wondering just how small these birds are? Well to answer your question they are between 5-7 inches and weight only about 2-3 ounces. Wow, that is small. So small in fact it puts them on the list of being one of the smallest parrots in the world. The only large thing about them is their beak. The average lifespan of one of these fantastic specimens is around ten to fifteen years depending on care. I hope you enjoyed this brief description on these beautiful animals. Now it is your turn to sit back and learn how to draw a peach face lovebird step by step. I will see you very shortly with my last tutorial for the day.
