This is the reference we will work from to draw a toucan. We’ll begin by drawing the beak, then the head to the feet and then the tail.
Steps For Drawing A Toucan
Step 1
Let’s start by drawing the beak and you can do this by drawing a curved line like I have done here.
Step 2
Then draw another curved line for the bottom of the beak. Add the extra details by drawing a tear shape in the middle of the beak and then draw a wavy line to close the beak off. Add another wavy line to match the first.
Step 3
At the top of the beak, draw a slightly curved line coming down for the head. Then go over to the bottom part of the beak and draw a shorter line.
Step 4
Continue extending those lines down so that you create a shape for the body of the toucan like this.
Step 5
Now head back up to the head section and draw two small circles for the eye next to the beak. Then draw a curved line to create the pattern on the head.
Step 6
At the opening of the bird at the bottom, draw in the feet. Also don’t forget to draw a line to indicate the branch that the toucan is sitting on.
Step 7
Leave a space between that line and draw another horizontal line. Then it’s time to draw the wing. Do this by drawing two parallel lines but align it to the body of the toucan.
Step 8
Draw a wavy line to close the tail and then your toucan drawing should be completed. Now all that is left to do is to color your drawing in. You can use black for the majority of the bird but use a yellow marker for the head.

In this tutorial, we’ll add an exotic touch to our summer mood by learning how to draw a tropical bird and creating a vivid toucan in Adobe Illustrator. We’ll be drawing this flat-style toucan using basic geometric shapes, working with corners, and exploring the Align panel. Let’s get started!
Step 1
We’ll learn how to draw a tropical bird by starting with the head of our toucan. Use the Rectangle Tool (M) to make a 100 x 140 px dark greyish-blue shape.
Take the Direct Selection Tool (A) and select both top corners of the rectangle. Once you see a circle marker of the Live Corners, pull it down to the center of the shape making the top of the rectangle fully rounded.
Another way to adjust the corners is to click the needed anchor points (corners) with the Direct Selection Tool (A) and then set the desired value in the Corners window in the control panel on top.
Step 2
Now let’s add a body. Use the Rectangle Tool (M) to make a 245 x 130 px shape and attach it to the bottom edge of the head.
Let’s make sure that our shapes are perfectly aligned. Select both shapes with the Selection Tool (V) and click the head shape once again (you will see a thicker selection along its edges). This way we turn it into a Key Object. Now click Horizontal Align Left to make both shapes aligned to the left edge of the head. There we have it!
