Charges for painting a tahoe

how much does it cost entirely paint a ’99 chevy tahoe?

originally bright red to royal blue.
what really is the difference between a cheap paint job and an expensive paint job besides price.

A good paint job will fix the dents with bondo and make it completely smooth. That is why maaco jobs look awful. A good paint job will cost you around 3000 if you are lucky enough to find somebody that will do it that cheap.

Depends on how good a job you want and how willing the shop is to do it, but easily 3000 probably more. Maaco will do it for 500.00 but you get what you pay for. Maaco uses cheap paint and it will fade in a couple of years. another thing that maaco does not do is they do not polish the finish out a good shop will polish your finish out till it looks like glass.Time consuming and expensive.

Paint job?

What can I expect to pay for a paint job? Doesn’t really matter who or where does it. My truck is a ’99 two door Tahoe Z71 Sport. Since it’s a sport it’s two-tone – black on top with the charcoal gray bottom.

What could I expect to pay to have the entire truck painted either black or charcoal gray? I know places like Maaco will do it for cheap but is that just a terrible job? Could I have it done for right at or under $500? I don’t need anything extravagant but I’d like it to look decently done and shiny as a stock paint job. I’d like at least 2-3 coats of clear, and hopefully I could get it painted charcoal gray all around as opposed to the stock two-tone. Would it be cheaper to have it painted black since the door jambs, etc. are already black? Can someone school me on this?

What’s the average cost just for a standard, charcoal gray metallic (Storm Gray) paint job? Is it closer to $1000?

Best thing you can do is go around to some local body shops and get some quotes.

How did Maaco used to offer $250 for a paint job? Was it just garbage?

I know about quality paint, prep-work, etc . one coat of clear, if that, etc. I’m sure they use nowadays they use a one-stage system. Sand it, clean it off, and spray it all on.

I’ve heard that the paint jobs Maaco does will begin to flake off by the time you start to leave the parking lot.

$500 is gonna get you materials. lower end at that.

Paint jobs for a simple overall fixing no body damage (exterior only) will run between $3K-$4K. If you get bodywork done, and go in the jambs to go the storm grey color expect it to go upwards of $5K. This will all be with a quality basecoat/clearcoat system with a lifetime warranty.

^what he said. paint is one thing you cant go cheap on. when it comes to materials, your talking cheaper colors may not cover worth a shit which will require more paint. clear coat may not be as durable to the sun and thats when you start seeing the clear peeling or delamination. when you talk cheap laber, your talking poor painting and prepping techniques. we had to blend a hood at the shop one time and blew all the clearcoat of the hood where it had been painted before and saw barely any sand scratches on the hood.

Maaco is cheap through and through no longevity and no garuntee’s.

Black will be about the cheapest color, your door jams will without a doubt save you money. Id say for a whole repaint 2k-3k

I got quoted to paint my 98 sierra for 3k then after i told him the extra’s we were looking at 4k.

Please dont use maco. Run straight spray primer. My boy just got his truck back from macko. I think he paid 250 or 500. Looks matte black. No sanding no bodywork no clear and paints chipping everywhere. The roof looks like it was line-x’d. I guess the gun got clogged and started shooting bb sized paint splatters and they said fuck it and went about painting.

I’m expecting to pay about 500 just to have my handles and bumper pad color matched. I would think a full paintjob would start at 3k and climb from there.

One thing about MAACO. it totally depends on who owns the shop. I’ve seen shitty paintjobs and damn near show-quality paint jobs come out of them. Personally Jeff I’d ask around and see what you can come up with. I’d have no qualms about MAACO, but I wouldn’t exactly get the most low-end product they offer either. The “supreme” service they offer seems to be the best value. It’s single stage but will look nearly as good as BC/CC if it’s taken care of.

Now if you had the space and could borrow/rent the equipment, you can’t beat doing it yourself. NAPA/PPG/Summit/etc will sell all the stuff you need to do the job. Obviously you’d want a couple of spare body panels to practice on. Actually spraying a vehicle isn’t that hard, you just have to make sure WHAT you’re spraying is properly done.

fuck it. spray paint da bitch. haha

I would think to have a good job either more that 2-3k or do it yourself. Or you could have a friend who knows how to paint do it for you for cost of materials (bagged00).

Thanks a ton for the advice Sark. and everyone else. I guess this thread is over as the paint on my truck isn’t bad, I’m just sick of it. It’s garaged and I don’t drive it all that much so the paint is in the same condition as it was when I bought it in ’05. If it wasn’t so damn hot out I’d clay bar and wax it. I’m just sick of looking at the black and gray. ah well. No way I’m paying that much for a paint job.. I’d rather try it myself as most of the cost is for labor. I once had a very nice HVLP setup with an 80 gallon, 5 HP, air compressor (over-kill just for paint. ) and with all of the supplies it cost me around $800. (had a really nice HVLP gun and all of the fittings, etc..) I ended up returning it all as it just wasn’t worth it to me at the time just to paint a few things.

Yellow GMC – if you pay $500 just for door handles and a bumper pad you’re getting screwed. I do not know about the costs of an entire vehicle but I’ve gotten single parts painted a buncha times. Many years back I paid to have my tailgate shaved and painted, along with some other miscellaneous pieces. (door handles, a bowtie, etc.) After the body guy started, I dropped off a bumper cap (stock GM, pre-smoothed/paintable) and he said he’d paint it at no cost. Seeing as though he’d already have the gun setup and all of that. Dealer wanted $250 JUST to paint it, plus another $200 for the part.
