Creating floral artwork with acrylic paints

Floral Painting in Acrylic – Online Course – Community Learning – 15:30-17:30

The Floral Painting course will guide you through the process of creating an Impressionistic floral still life painting in acrylics, recreating the colour palettes of nature from start to finish. You will learn a painterly, Impressionistic approach by using your palette knife and various brushstrokes. Give your flower paintings texture; learn how to paint leaves, stems, branches and petals, as well as how to paint the light and shadows that create depth and dimension in your acrylic painting. The course is suitable for beginners, improvers or more accomplished ones.

Learners will be taught how to simplify and separate tonal values into areas of light and shadow, how to use warm and cool colours effectively and how to mix and balance naturalistic greens creating a subtle acrylic palette and a realistic sense of sunlight hitting the leaves and petals.

By the end of the course, learners will know how to select the art materials, how to prepare the painting surface, how to use media and tools to compose, to sketch, to apply and manipulate the media, using different painting techniques.
