When it comes to Mother’s Day, there is nothing better than receiving gifts and cards crafted by little hands. I always love getting homemade goodies from my boys on Mother’s Day, and today I am sharing a wonderful DIY Mother’s Day art project you are going to have your kids make for you.

Start with an inexpensive canvas. (I got this one at the dollar store.)

Place a paper or sticker heart in the middle of the canvas.

Use paint to cover the canvas with bright and beautiful colours. I used straight lines, but the canvas can be painted any way the artists likes.

Keep painting until the entire canvas is covered.

Then, remove the heart from the centre of the canvas.

At this point, the canvas can be left as it is, or the child can write “mom” (or something else) in the centre of the heart.

Isn’t it cute?

This is such a lovely art project for kids, and it makes a great gift for kids to share with their moms.

I have more ideas for handmade Mother’s Day celebrations and gifts here.

What is your favourite way to celebrate Mother’s Day? If you love simple homemade gifts and treats, I hope you give this little project a try!

Kids’ Canvas Art for Mother’s Day (Video)

Looking for a fun and easy craft for your kids to make for Mother’s Day? This sweet DIY canvas art is simple to make and great for kids of all ages! It makes a meaningful gift for a mom or grandma in your life. My girls and I made this one together, and we’re going to give it to my mom for a Mother’s Day gift this year.

DIY Kids

This also makes a great afternoon activity to keep the kiddos occupied, too! My girls love to paint, and painting on canvases is a real treat. We found these mini canvases at the craft store, and simply used some painter’s tape and acrylic paint we had on hand.

DIY Kids

To make this artwork, I put some tape on each canvas in the shape of a letter. We spelled the word “love” on the four canvases, but you could spell out any meaningful word that the recipient would like. Then, I had my daughters go crazy with acrylic paint and paint the canvases however they wished. After the paint was dry, I peeled off the tape to reveal the letters. The finishing touch? I had each child sign their name on their canvas to make the art more personal.
