Make a Large DIY Sign on Canvas

I have a confession. I love fonts. I also love quotes, song lyrics, and Bible verses. Put those two things together? Morgan is one happy camper! (Well, I wouldn’t actually know what a “happy camper” is since the only tent I’ve ever slept in was a Pound Puppies one I had when I was six that could attach to my bed…..that I slept on inside… And if you don’t know what Pound Puppies are, well, I don’t know if we can be friends or not. (Just kidding. As long as you know about slap bracelets and Pop Rocks, we can be BFFs.)

But really, this decorative style (aka “textual art”) that is all over home decor land right now is right.up.my.alley. And you want to know the best part my frugal friend? It is an easy DIY project and better yet, it’s cheap! (My husband doesn’t like that term. He says that implies things are poor quality and are going to fall apart just by looking at them. He says the correct term is “inexpensive.” Bless his heart.) We will just call this project “good looking chic cheap.” Is that any better Mr. PearTreeHome?

Fill Your Home With What You Love

I love making DIY signs. I have shared my infatuation with them here. There is just something great about picking a saying you love, a font it looks good in, and making something affordable for your home. It’s details like these, really filing your house with things that make you happy, that express your personality, that makes a house feel like home.

I make signs on all kinds of things: new wood, old boards, cardboard (I’ve been known to use cake circles and pizza boxes), and canvases.

The project I want to show you today uses an inexpensive canvas. These are the pre-stretched, least expensive variety you can buy at your favorite craft store. They usually come in a multi-pack. For this project I used one 18×24 canvas.

The Real Things Haven’t Changed

I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie. Melissa Gilbert was my home-girl. When my daughter was five we read through all 9 books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I love this quote of hers:

“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have, to be happy with simple pleasures; and to have courage when things go wrong.”

This is the quote you might have seen if you checked out our sunroom (aka “playroom”) refresh that we did for the $100 Room Challenge. It’s hanging right above the entryway. Isn’t it great when someone who was born 150 years ago can say something that can resonate with us still?

Because deep down, if you strip away social media, all of our “newfangled technology,” and the hustle and bustle, isn’t being honest, truthful, grateful, and happy what everyone wants? It’s definitely something I want my kiddos to learn.

The things of this world don’t compare to what is to come, but while we are on this earth, I hope that they will learn to display all of the qualities stated in this quote.

Now, I realize that is quite a lot to hope for! That’s why I went for the larger, 18×24 size (wink!), no 5×7 here kiddos. (Well, the one kiddo can’t read yet…..minor detail….)

They probably will hardly notice that sign (sigh), but it will at least remind ME. Even mamas need to be reminded of what’s important!

Easy DIY Canvas Quote Art How To – Free inspirational quote prints and handmade home decor

This post is sponsored by Canvas Champ.

I spend a lot of time in my office, so I’m always on a mission to make it as inviting and functional as possible. The reason I choose to work from home over my actual office, more often than not, is simply because I feel so much more motivated when I’m in a space that I love.

That’s why I love redecorating and filling my office with the things that make me happy. From stacks and stacks of books (my office book collection is currently sitting at 289 colour coordinated books) to cute little trinkets, lots of live plants and quotes to remind myself of throughout the day.

But finding that perfect quote print is often hard. sure, I could go to a store and buy a cheesy art print. but do I really need to remind myself to BREATHE or is seeing the world RELAX really going to make me relax? And is reminding myself that I’m beautiful really going to decrease my stress levels when I’ve got deadlines looming and clients calling me incessantly? Probably not.

That’s why I love creating my own art pieces – and I wanted to show you how to make the EASIEST DIY Quote Art Prints for your walls – and also host an awesome GIVEAWAY! (Because who doesn’t love the chance to win something!)
