About Defined by Art With Lauren

I feel I discover something new each time I paint. What painting means to me is. In the words of one of my Art inspirations “It’s a place I escape to from a world I don’t always like and am so comfortable doing it’ Each painting has pieces of me within, each brush stroke. I smile, I’m relaxed, I love what I’m doing! if I’ve had a distressing day I forget it all. I’m free to be me. I feel a very close bond with each and every creation. While we work together we get to know each other better with every brush or pencil stroke. Creating a peice of artwork is like being a surrogate Mum watching your baby grow and develop. Loving them until it’s time to let them go to their forever home.

“If I can make one person smile for just one minute with my artwork then I’m living my dream. How amazing would that be!”

All my artwork has a story behind it or a feeling to share with you. Every piece is created with 100% passion and joy. When I’m creating I’m free to be me the person I want to be. Much of my work is inspired by personal experience of being judge or misunderstood. I’m driven by considering the impact of expectation and a desire to normalise difference.

The one thing I don’t like about the art world is snobbery. I don’t believe you need to be rich or educated to love art or do art. Not all art needs to tell a story. It’s OK to like something because it looks good. Art is allowed to be fun! Enjoy it!

FAQs

What kind of material should I choose?

The type of material you chose is dependent on the look you are trying to achieve. Oil paintings tend to look most authentic on canvas, while watercolor paintings and sketches look best on fine art paper.

What is the difference between canvas roll and stretched canvas?

Stretched canvas is shipped on a 1.5” wooden frame and is ready to hang upon arrival. Canvas roll does not come on a wooden frame and is shipped in a roll. It will need to be stretched or placed in a frame in order to be hung.
