I created this window announcement for the upcoming Napa Makes, an annual event showcasing a curated selection of Bay Area artisans, with support from the lovely Sara Lucas. The program is held at and supports the Oxbow School, a semester-long art school program for high school juniors.

Read to Me | Napa Bookmine | Napa, CA

With a quote from ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, I painted a parent reading to their child to express the importance of this simple act of love.

Tourism office launches downtown Halloween, fall-themed window painting project

If you haven’t already, spend a little time walking around downtown Lawrenceburg to check out all of the windows painted recently with different Halloween and fall themes.

The tourism office started the window painting project this year and got local middle school and high school students to paint 23 different windows around downtown with everything from pumpkins and scarecrows to ghosts and werewolves.

“Downtown Lawrenceburg always has a festive feel during the fall because of decorating done by our local merchants,” said Kendall Clinton, executive director of the Lawrenceburg/Anderson County Tourism Commission. “The Anderson County Fiscal Court also started the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the courthouse in 2019 and will be hosting that again this year. We thought the window painting would complement those efforts and give downtown a great fall and Halloween atmosphere.”

The Lawrenceburg/Anderson County Tourism office coordinated the painting project and received help in the inaugural year with finding students to paint by working with art teachers at Anderson County’s middle and high school, as well as Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg. Supplies for the paintings were paid for through donations from the businesses where the paintings were done, as well as a generous donation from the Anderson County Arts Council. Ace Hardware in Lawrenceburg also donated brushes for the young painters to use.

On Friday, Oct. 23, the second year of the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular display will be set up on the steps of the Anderson County Courthouse and remain in place – lit up each night – through Halloween. Paired with the window paintings, there will be plenty to walk around and see downtown during the Halloween season, perhaps before you go on the Lawrenceburg Ghost Walk or while you are here for the Adult Trick or Treat event on Oct. 30.

After all of the paintings were complete, members of the Anderson County Arts Council judged the work and chose first and second place winners in both the middle and high school categories. Those winners included:

1st place middle school – Ireland Tatum
