What you’ll do
Learn to paint a pretty boy bird in Jessica Watt’s beautiful loft studio in Northern Sydney.
In this fun and creative workshop, Jessica will teach you how to paint your very own iconic Australian bird. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced painter, this class is suitable for all skill levels.
You will first learn how to use a reference photo and practice your skills of observation to draw your fella. Using a simple transfer technique, you will apply your final drawing to a spray-painted panel.
We’ll demonstrate how to master a palette knife to apply luscious impasto acrylic, and will also take you through finer brushwork skills. There is always lots of chat and laughter and expert insider colour mixing tips shared.
All materials are included, so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything with you. Just come as you are and be ready to get creative!

“The Uncaged” is a collection of original contemporary abstract paintings featuring realistic bird renderings to illustrate the concept of the “un-caging” of women. They may be oppressed or abused for part of their lives; later to break free to go on and flourish— to be their authentic selves.They are full of personality and color…truly unique. I think about how women couldn’t even have their own lines of credit until the mid-seventies. I realize so many must have felt trapped as they stuffed themselves into a figurative box to please a spouse or others. These works are a tribute to those powerful inner spirits and personalities that won’t be caged again!
