Best YouTube Watercolor Tutorials

Of all the watercolor discoveries I’ve had this year, whether a magical type of paper (Winsor & Newton), a beautiful paint (Daniel Smith’s Nickel Azo Yellow and Aussie Red Gold), the most used brush (Escoda Versatil #10), or the most watched tutorials, the tutorials have been the most essential to my journey. After all, I can paint with supplies from Dollar General if need be, but because painting is often a solitary activity, the tutorials keep it from feeling too lonely.

Each of the artists I’ve listed below brings a different type of personality and style (both teaching and painting) to their videos. Some days I may need a friend to remind me that painting is playful, and on others I may need a friendly coach. In the midst of my most productive days, I might need a quick bit of definitive “the way things are done” to keep me going.

Paintcrush with Kristy Rice

Kristy Rice is the friend who reminds me that painting is play. She has a genuine, in-the-moment excitement that reminds me of the magic of watercolor, no rules required. She’s fun to watch, I can easily follow along, and the charts she presents are incredibly helpful for learning how paint behaves on paper — not to mention I love seeing which rings she’ll be wearing and which of her vintage tins and HUGE palettes of paints she’ll be using. She’s created her own palette, her own set of brushes, and has books available, as well. Rice’s brushes are one of my favorite art supplies and are one of the recommended items in my Amazon Affiliate Watercolor Supplies List. (As an Amazon Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases.)

I love exploring different styles and learning from a variety of teachers at Beebly’s. Rather than putting all my eggs in ONE basket and following or emulating only one artist, I am now learning from a variety of instructors. I feel I have become a more well-rounded artist thanks to these classes. I will continue trying these tutorials and see if I can beat myself. or maybe even create something better than the original.
