Effortless way to create a fall-inspired tree drawing

To capture this quintessential fall scene on a painted rock, I created a tree outline and then filled it in with red, orange and yellow leaves.

  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens 177, 228, 249, 837, 847
  • Tombow MONO Drawing Pen 01
  • Journal, planner, or greeting card

Using MONO Drawing Pen 01, draw a line across the top of your journal page and down the sides.

Next, using Dual Brush Pen 228, create very thin flicks of ink following the line on one side only.

Repeat for the other side of the line, creating flicks on ink in the opposite direction.

It should look similar to this when done:

Repeat this process using Dual Brush Pen 249. Create quick flicks on ink on top of color 228 leaving more space in between the flicks.

Then use Dual Brush Pen 177 to layer color on top of the previous two colors using the same technique. Space these flicks out even more than the previous color.

To finish your garland, use a MONO Drawing Pen to draw lines hanging from the garland. Then, use Dual Brush Pens 837 and 847 to color in the ornaments.

Your easy Christmas garland is complete! Make this a header in your bullet journal or planner. You could also draw this garland on the envelopes of your Christmas cards!

Danny Morrison July 19, 2022 at 8:30 am Easy Christmas Garland is a great idea for those who want to make their home look amazing, but don’t have the time or energy to do it themselves. I love the idea of being able to decorate my house with something that is done for me, and it’s perfect for those nights when you just want to sit down and relax while your house looks beautiful.

Tree with Falling Leaves Painted Rock Step 1: Draw tree frame

Use the Black Posca paint pen to draw the main outline of the tree trunk, branches and roots and your rock. Color it in using the Posca pen.

Tree with Falling Leaves Painted Rock Step 2: Add smaller branches

how to paint a tree with falling leaves on a rock

Add small off shoot branches to the large ones you already painted on your rock and extended tree roots with your Posca pen.

Tree with Falling Leaves Painted Rock Step 3: Add leaves with 3D paint

how to paint leaves on a rock with 3D paint

Using the 3D Paint, start to add leaves to the tree.

To make the leaves, place the tip against the rock and gently squeeze.

Just as the paint starts to come out, move the paint tip away and stop squeezing to create a dot with a pointed end similar in shape to a leaf.

Pro tip: If you haven’t worked with 3D paint before, do some practice on a piece of paper before using the paint on your rock!

Turn the rock or your hand as needed to create leaves pointing in different directions.

Repeat this process with the orange and red paint.

To add fallen leaves to the ground around the base of the tree, use the different colors 3D Paint to add dot and leaf shapes.

Continue alternating colors and adding dots until you are happy with how it looks.

Tree with Falling Leaves Painted Rock Step 5: Seal

The FolkArt 3D Paint is considered outdoor safe. For best results, allow the paint on the rock to cure for 24 hours and then seal with your favorite clear spray sealer.
