Some recommend prepayment for a funeral, while others are happy to let their families pay as and when the time arrive. Regardless, funerals may be expensive; therefore, planning for their payment is essential.

Funeral Plan

What is a funeral plan, and how it works? Let’s discuss it in detail in this post. A funeral plan makes it simple to make arrangements and cover the expenses of a funeral in advance. It also gives you a chance to decide how you’d want to be remembered, which may ease the burden of guilt on your loved ones.

Everything you need to know about funeral plans and what features should be included is discussed in this article.

Types Of Funeral Plan

There are normally three kinds of funeral arrangements available from providers:

Basic: A basic plan may only pay for your burial or cremation and may place limits on when and where your loved ones may pay their respects.

Standard: A standard funeral plan may include using a limousine for the funeral procession and a simple casket and burial insurance.

Comprehensive: Vehicles for the funeral ceremony and to carry visitors to the funeral, additional options for seeing the corpse in a chapel of rest, and more.

This illustrates the common components of a funeral plan, whether it be for a traditional burial or a more modern cremation. Be aware that the services offered, and the associated costs will vary from one company to the next.

What happens to the money I paid for my plan? – We help many thousands of customers to plan and fund their funerals. Because of economies of scale, we can sell our plans to our customers at a rate which is usually far more cost effective than it would be for them buying from a funeral director at the time of the funeral itself. As a commercial enterprise, we have costs of doing business and promotional marketing. These costs are met by supply side economies of scale delivered by our ability to purchase funerals in bulk and are consequently absorbed into the price of our plans.

We retain an amount from the price paid by you for your plan (which is currently €274 / £239) to cover our administrative costs of running the business for the life of each plan, which is approximately 11 years. We also retain an amount (which currently ranges between €404 / £350.70 and €834 / £724 dependent on which plan you purchase) to cover marketing, sales fulfilment expenses and to provide the business with an element of profit. The balance is placed in the Trust in order to pay the appointed funeral director and other costs of the agreed funeral (for further information, please see our Commission and Payment Disclosure and refer to our fees and payments breakdown summary table for further details).
