We ensure that our flowers are grown and stored in the best temperature and light conditions to ensure the leaves do not turn black or curl up. Our fresh flowers have closed sheaths that contain four to six flowers.
It takes 3 years to bloom, it’s well worth the wait!

The plant itself is 4 feet tall, with long, dramatic blue-green foliage (the leaves reach a foot and a half long and 6 inches wide!) and a tall, sturdy central bloom stalk 3 feet long! At the top of this stalk is the bloom, 6 to 8 inches long, held out horizontally from the plant for a maximum show of the stunning orange and blue petals!

Birds of Paradise are one of the most colorful flowers in the world. The name Bird of Paradise comes from its spectacular flower shape which unmistakably resembles a bird’s beak and head plumage. The flower is native to South Africa. Birds of Paradise, also known as Crane flowers are one of the most beautiful flowers and it represents joyfulness and (not surprisingly) paradise itself. Bird of Paradise care and handling tips for the grower, the wholesaler, and the retailer. Here is a preview.

For the grower, you will find some very specific recommendations on harvesting the Bird of Paradise. You can harvest when the first orange flowers appear, or when the flower is in the tight bud stage. Also, you typically pull the Bird of Paradise using a side to side motion (gently!) instead of cutting it. After cutting, place flower stems in a post-harvest solution treatment.

For the Wholesaler and Retailer, buying tips for the Bird of Paradise include avoiding stems with the appearance of brown lesions, and also stems that are black or slimy in the lower portion. Look for waxed paper bags on each inflorescence and the paper wrapper on each bunch, to protect the flowers from handling and drying out.

Unpack your Birds of Paradise immediately and recut the stems.

You have a couple of options to rehydrate and condition flowers after a period of dry transport for increased quality and enhanced flower life.
