Easy fall painting for kids

Easy Fall Painted Leaves by No Time for Flash Cards – Painter’s tape and paint to create veins on this fall leaf craft.

Toddler Fall Painting Activity

Ever since I let them paint with “real” paint (aka washable Crayola paint), they have been hooked. This toddler fall painting activity was perfect for washable paint!

Usually, we have just been using edible paint that I make. Edible paint is great when your toddler puts everything in their mouth and wants a whole sensory experience.

Since it’s fall time, I decided to do a fun painting activity with my twins, since they love creating art. Does your child love art?

With this activity, your child can create anything they want, and mix colors in any way that they want. It’s really opened ended artwork, that is so much fun, and age-appropriate for toddlers.

Toddler Fall Art

My toddler twins had so much fun mixing and smearing the paint around.

They learned that red and yellow make orange!

This artwork looks like fall with all of the fall colors mixed together.

We also added in some green paint and mixed that around.

How to Set Up The Toddler Fall Painting Activity:

  • Put a big piece of paper on the ground or on a table
  • Tape it down so it stays put (I used duct tape)
  • Set out paintbrushes if you want(my boys just like using their hands the best)
  • Get at least 2 different Paint Colors- I used this kind of fingerpaint (affiliate link)
  • Start with pouring one color of paint on the paper and just let them paint that
  • Add in another color and let them mix them together (we did primary colors – red and yellow at first so we could make orange)
  • Add in more colors if desired – We stuck to fall colors since this was for fall leaves. You could add in brown and green. We just added in green.
  • Let dry and cut into leaves. I cut mine out for my toddlers, but you could have your child help (with safety scissors and supervision of course).
  • Have your child help you hang the leaves from this toddler fall painting activity on the wall for a fun decoration – That THEY made
