Holiday-themed painting ideas for wooden Christmas trees

What are popular Christmas tree color themes?

Art Christmas Tree

Art Christmas Tree - the mini Christmas tree is decorated with art themed items like craft supplies, homemade ornaments, and a color wheel

This art tree is the 2nd tree in the learning Christmas tree series I created with my friend Nadia Colucci who is an expert when it comes to decorating Christmas trees for all holidays, not just Christmas. Check out all of Nadia’s amazing trees here.

The idea behind an art Christmas tree is that it’s a fun way to get your kids learning about and creating ART at home whether you homeschool, your kids do online school or you just want more art at home. You can fill the tree with easy and fun craft projects that can be taken right off the tree. The crafts that you see on the tree in the picture are all finished crafts, but you can start by decorating the tree with unfinished wood craft pieces, shells, mini canvases and more. See a complete list of craft ideas to get you start below.

  • Artificial Christmas Tree – We used a mini 4ft tree but you could also use a larger artificial tree.
  • Colorful Garland – This rainbow felt ball garland is a great way to add color to your tree.

Craft Ideas for an Art Christmas Tree

Here’s some ideas that you can use to decorate your own art themed Christmas tree. I’ve included the links to tutorials so you can get multiple fun projects out of this one activity. I prefer to decorate the Christmas tree with a combination of art supplies and homemade ornaments.

Glitter Ornaments

The idea is to not feel overwhelmed about doing art at home, especially if you think you aren’t the artistic type. It doesn’t have to be complicated. A few paints and a piece of wood can go a long way.

Rockin’ around the novelty tree

Make your tree merry and bright with novelty styling that truly embraces the joy and nostalgia of Christmas time. Opt for an evergreen-style Adairs Christmas Tree with plenty of volume to host this maximalist decoration theme. Cute and kitschy decorations are now the coolest Christmas accessory, with vintage glass ornaments the heroes of this colourful trend.

Styling your novelty Christmas tree

Replace your traditional baubles and tinsel with quirky novelty Christmas decorations sitting cheerfully on every branch. Tiny painted lobsters, ice creams, chip packets and fish pay homage to all the best bits of days gone by. Give them a modern feel by mixing in different colours and a few shiny baubles, too. This trend is a little left of centre but it will certainly add a lot of fun to your home this Christmas. Plus, the kids will love it!

A beautiful, beachy Christmas

We have a real love affair with the coastal Christmas theme, offering maximum beauty with minimal fuss. Timber, twine , and warm terracotta hues will live in harmony on an Adairs wooden Christmas tree – an alternative to traditional pine with a gorgeous laid-back feel that’s perfect for Christmas holidays spent by the seaside.
