Watercolor supplies needed
- Large watercolor brush
- Watercolor tube set
- 300gsm watercolor paper
How to paint a watercolor sunset in 7 steps
- Tape down your paper to prevent the paper from bending
- Wet the paper with clean water using your brush
- Take some yellow paint and draw wiggly lines at the bottom of the paper
- While the paint is still wet, draw some orange wiggly lines on top of the yellow
- Take some pink paint and dab wiggly lines in the middle of the paper
- Blend the pink into the yellow/orange
- Take a deep pink and dab it to the top of the paper. Blend it down to the bottom of the page.

Basic Watercolor: Painting the Sunset
Learn how to paint the sunset for beginners! In this class, I will be teaching basic watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, variegated washes and dry brush painting. At the end of the workshop, we’ll be able to paint the sunset using the techniques we’ve learned.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
This is a hands-on class. Please prepare the following materials for your use.
- watercolor papers – 2 sheets, each cut into half – 6” x 9”
- round brushes (preferably size 9~11)
- watercolor paint & palette
- tissue
- water container
- pencil & eraser
- masking tape
- any hard paper or plastic board
- hairdryer (optional)

- Expected Duration: 2 hours
- For ages 12 years old and above
- Private Group Class: 4-10 students
- Small group class conducted via Zoom Meeting

Kathy Cua is a watercolor artist that specializes on painting character illustrations for kids. She is the co-creator of ActVenture Journal which is a book that encourages the kids to know God in a fun and meaningful way. In her spare time, she conducts workshops for kids and adults teaching them the art of watercolor painting.
